I spent a morning doing landscape photography around Lake Bled in Slovenia using the Sony A7IV with the GM 35mm f1.4 lens.

For this portrait session, I am using the Zeiss 50mm f1.4 on the Sony A7 IV, capturing backlit images on the beach during golden hour. The combination of the lens’s wide aperture and the warm, soft light of the setting sun helped create intimate, glowing portraits with beautiful light falloff and natural skin tones.
Should you use a Mist filter for your portrait photography? During this portrait photoshoot, I take side by side photos using a Pro-Mist Filter vs not using a filter. I organised this portrait session with Wiktoria while I was travelling through Poznan, Poland in the summer.
Choosing the right focal length for the scene is half the work in photography. Depending on what focal length you choose, can drastically change what the photo looks like. In this series, I will be comparing all main prime lens focal lengths at portrait photoshoots. We are starting this series off on the wide end with the 24mm vs 35mm!
Using vintage lenses is a fun way to capture interesting images. For this portrait photoshoot I am using the Sony A7IV with the 7 element Super Takumar 50mm f1.4. To be able to use this lens on my Sony A7IV, I am using an M42 to Sony FE adaptor. This particular Super Takumar is quite yellowed. It caused a mixture of results on the day.
I thought I would share my street photography separately in this post instead. I captured all these photos with my Sony A7IV + GM 35mm f1.4.
Finally, the travel blogs are back!! It's been 3 years since I went overseas, my last trip being to Scotland to do photography for a wedding. Now that the Australian borders have opened again, Dan and I decided to head back to Gdansk, Poland to see his family. By the end of our first whirlwind week we were ready to head off on our month-long road trip. First stop - Poznan, Poland!
The Tamron 20-40mm Di III VXD is a wide angle zoom lens with a fixed aperture of f2.8. This is a full frame, E-mount lens so I am using for this portrait photoshoot on the Sony A7IV. Watch my review video below to see unedited, straight out of camera photos at 100% crop. Throughout the video I share comparison images with lenses of similar focal ranges.
The Tokina Firin 100mm f2.8 Macro is a prime lens for Sony E-mount. I am using this lens on the Sony A7IV in the studio. I wanted a minimal look for today's beauty shoot so I am using the Silvertone backdrop from Superior. I styled Bella in an off the shoulder top so we don't have any outfits or fabrics distracting from the portraits.
The Samyang 35mm f1.4 mkII is a prime lens for Sony E mount. I am testing this lens out on location to see how it performs in the real world at a portrait photoshoot. I am using the Samyang 35mm f1.4 II on the Sony A7IV for photography and on the A7sIII for video tests.
During this portrait photoshoot, I am comparing the Sony GM 135mm f1.8 vs Samyang AF 135mm f1.8 vs Sigma 135mm f1.8 Art DG HSM. I am using all 3 lenses on one Sony A7IV camera body to make sure we have identical settings during our tests. Watch my comparison video below to see SOOC, 1:1 views of all the photos. I share comparisons of the image quality, sharpness and bokeh. I also compare the AF performance and autofocus accuracy to see who makes the best 135mm prime for Sony cameras.
The Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG DN Art lens is an E-mount lens for Sony. I am using this Sigma prime on the Sony A7IV. For this portrait photoshoot, I wanted to do something a little bit different. Usually I am photographing outdoors in very green locations with natural light. This time, I booked in a beautiful photography studio with large windows for our photoshoot.
The Sony GM 24-70mm f2.8 MKII is a lightweight standard zoom lens for Sony E mount. This lens weighs an impressive 695 grams and uses four XD linear motors to achieve fast autofocus. I share unedited 1:1 view photo examples at various focal lengths throughout our shoot. I've also included comparison images to other Sony GM zoom lenses, prime lenses and third party lenses.
The Samyang AF 135mm f1.8 FE is an excellent telephoto prime lens for Sony cameras. I am using the Sony A7IV and A7III to test this Samyang 135mm at a portrait photoshoot. Watch my review video to see examples of autofocus performance and accuracy, image quality, bokeh, chromatic aberration and lens flare. I also include video quality examples on the A7sIII and A7IV.
I used the Sony A7IV and the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 lens for these photos. While I am a portrait and wedding photographer, I do enjoy going out to do landscape and wildlife photography. I saw the opportunity to visit these waterfalls on a rainy day and was hoping to see some fog - the weather definitely delivered for me!
The Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G2 is a standard zoom lens for Sony E-Mount. During this portrait photography session, I am using the Tamron 28-75mm G2 on the Sony A7III. Watch my review video below to see the autofocus performance in stills mode, focus accuracy, image quality, sharpness and more.
The Sony A7IV is FINALLY here!! We're going to be taking a look at this camera in my real world review to see how the A7IV performs out in the field. I have SO MUCH in this video today, we test out: human eye AF in photo and video, animal + bird eye AF in photo and video, we check out the A7IV body build to see what's new in the physical body, do portrait photography in the rain to see the image quality, colour rendition and sharpness. I use 3 different prime lenses for our portrait photoshoot: the GM 35mm f1.4, GM 85mm f1.4 and GM 135mm f1.8. I have some 4K video samples to share with you, I see if the A7IV overheats in video or photo mode, compare the IBIS, all the picture profiles, focus breathing compensation and see how the A7IV performs in low light for photo and video. I also answer the all important question - as a full time portrait and wedding photographer who uses the A7III, will I upgrade?
