The GM 14mm f1.8 is Sony’s latest, widest prime lens. This 14mm will be a great addition to any landscape photographer or astrophotographer’s camera bag. What is really striking is the size - or lack thereof - of this small but solid lens. It’s built like other GM lenses with a customisable button, de-click switch, AF-MF switch, focus ring and aperture ring.

This GM 14mm is also an extremely fast wide angle lens with an aperture of f1.8. Typically lenses as wide as this do not come in the f1.X offerings in such a small size, which makes this a super exciting release from Sony. It seems like lens size is something Sony are really focusing on in 2021, we just saw the release of the G 24mm f2.8 + G 40mm F2.5 & G 50mm f2.5. The GM 35mm f1.4 that came out earlier this year is also a powerful but very small lens and the G 20mm f1.8 that released in 2020 is yet another strong but small lens.

Watch my video below to see 100% cropped, SOOC images. I share examples of closeup images to see the detail and clarity of this lens when wide open. I also share landscape images taken at f1.8 vs f5.6 as well as f8 vs f16.

Because I am primarily a portrait photographer, I thought it would be fun to take some photos of Dan with such an unconventional portrait focal length. Of course, I also share examples of this GM 14mm f1.8 for astrophotography and astro-portraits!

The photos below are edited with my Amalfi Lightroom Preset Pack!

Here are more images of the GM 14mm f1.8 on the Sony A7III camera body + extra photos I took around the gardens that I didn’t include in my video.

These landscape photos were edited with my Aspen Lightroom Preset Pack as I wanted a cooler look for these shots of the Blue Mountains.

Finally, we ate some dinner and waited in the car for it to get dark so we can do astrophotography with the GM 14mm f1.8 and just for fun we also shot some astro-portraits with the lens as well! All these astro shots are custom edited in Lightroom.

Download a sample gallery of highres GM 14mm f1.8 photos taken on the Sony A7III here. These are all SOOC, completely unedited JPGs.
