The Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 is a fixed aperture zoom lens for Sony FE mount cameras. I am using this lens on the Sony A7III and share my experiences of what it’s like using this lens for real world portrait photography. I’ve had positive experiences using Tamron lenses such as my photoshoots on the 35mm f1.4, 35mm f1.8 and 35-150mm f2.8-4 (which are all Tamron lenses for Canon), and this lens was no exception! I chose a dried field location (my favourite) for my portrait session with Serena and tested the lens with some classic portraits, movement and at all focal lengths throughout the shoot.

The Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 is the perfect zoom portrait lens. I had a hard time deciding which telephoto lens I should add to my camera kit after testing this lens out. I had a decision between this lens and the GM 135mm f1.8. Ultimately I went with the 135mm as I also do wedding photography. Having that slightly faster aperture will be helpful in those low light situations to capture clean images. If I only did portrait photography, I would have decided in favour of the Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 as I love that you have the versatility of a zoom lens, but still retaining high image quality.
