The Canon EOS R6 is a 20MP, full frame, mirrorless camera. I am using the R6 with the RF 28-70mm f2 zoom lens for these portraits. The EOS R6 is a camera aimed at enthusiast photographers and videographers, sitting below Canon's 45MP EOS R5.

While the Canon EOS R5 is a superb and extremely capable camera, it can be overkill for most photographers including myself. While there are some personal drawbacks I find with the EOS R6, it is the perfect in between Canon mirrorless for portrait photographers. This camera body offers a well rounded combination of photography and videography features for more creatives.

To give you some perspective on my opinion, the sweet spot for me with wedding and portrait photography is between 24-30 MP. The Canon R6 is a bit short at 20MP, whereas the Canon R5 far exceeds that with 45MP. My last daily Canon body was the 5D mkiv @ 30MP and my current daily is the Sony A7iii @ 24MP. When I consider a camera body as my main workhorse for portraits and weddings, there are a few features it needs to have, and falling between 24-30MP is one of them. Similarly to the Canon R5, I love the Sony a7R4, but I don’t use it for work as its not within that MP range.

On the other hand, the Canon EOS R6 benefits from having dual card slots. This is a must for me with wedding and client work, to have an instant backup of my photos.
