The Canon RF 50mm f1.2 and Sony Zeiss 50mm f1.4 are two flagship, high-end 50mm lenses. In this comparison we are going to be putting both lenses head to head in a real world setting. I am using the RF 50mm f1.2 on the Canon ROS R5. And the Zeiss 50mm f1.4 is being used on the Sony A7III.
The Sony A7R4 is a 61MP, full frame mirrorless camera. I am using the Zeiss 50mm f1.4 lens for this portrait photoshoot. It’s been a long time since I’ve done a portrait photoshoot on a 50mm lens.
The Zeiss 55mm f1.8 is a budget-friendly prime lens which I am using on the full frame Sony A7C camera body. In this behind the scenes video, I share with you my composition tips and how I direct my subject for portraits with a 55mm.
In this photoshoot I took some portraits on the Sony A7III with the Zeiss 35mm f1.4 during blue hour at the beach and on the streets.
I’ve been sharing a lot of lens comparison videos recently, so I thought I’d do a good old creative photoshoot on the Sony A7III + Zeiss 35mm f1.4. We shot a few photos on the streets, finding good colours, textures and lighting for the background and then headed down to the beach for a few more fun, movement filled shots at the end. You can watch the behind the scenes below where we included a new little fun thing where you can see what I see while I’m taking photos!

During today’s photoshoot I really wanted to compare the Zeiss 35mm f1.4 to the Canon 35mm f1.4 II. I’ve loved using both these lenses for portrait photoshoots in the past, but wanted to do a side by side comparison to see what the similarities and differences are. Watch the video below to hear my thoughts about it all and see lots of photo examples straight out of the camera + camera settings I used.
