fields of yellow

It was Spring in Australia and roadtrip season was in full swing. Dan and I had spent most of our weeks going on adventures, all of which we documented and you can have a look at on The Adventure Truck blog. One afternoon Dan wanted to go to a forest, so we got dressed for pictures, packed Zeke the truck and headed off on a drive. Little did I know he was going to surprise me and actually take me to this beautiful field of yellow flowers instead. When we arrived, I screamed unable to believe my eyes - fields of flowers are hard to come by in Australia and I've never really had the chance to see one with my own eyes let alone run through them and take photos. I was in heaven.

We spent the rest of the afternoon running through the fields, taking pictures and collapsing in the grass with our eyes up in the sky gazing at the stars once the sun set. It was a magical afternoon and one I hope we can re experience this Spring again!

blue mountains

in the springtime, dan and i set off on a frosty morning to visit the blue mountains. i spoke of feeling over worked and wanting to take more time for myself in my winter blog post and this was one of those instances. life is too short not to get out and do things that make you feel alive. it was wonderful waking up in the morning and not turning on my computer or checking my emails. i took my time getting ready, curling my hair, giving my eyes wings and picking out a dress to wear. 

without a rush or a care in the world, dan and i set off and drove with our windows down and the music loud to the mountains. we stopped at a few places throughout the day. all places i've been to before but haven't seen in years. our first and main stop of the day was at the everglade gardens. we wandered through the trees and the manicured hedges stopping to take pictures everywhere. i laid on the grass with the flowers and dan took my portrait. 

we set off again and stopped on the side of the road in the suburbs to take pictures with the cherry blossoms that were blooming throughout the town. we made a quick stop at the three sisters for a couple of cloudy photos but went to fossil rock lookout and sat on the highest rock we could find to watch the sun go down. 

adventure is something i look forward to the most. there is nothing more that i love than being in beautiful, natural places. to walk around, take pictures and just be happy being outside. until next time, blue mountains.

this week: white sands

in january, your clothes stick to your skin and cracks form in the pavement from the hot sun and balmy nights. to escape the temperature and make the most of the crystal clear days we've been experiencing, dan and i went on a road trip to a beach known for its white sand and turquoise waters, jervis bay. we arrived after a long drive and walked down the forest track to the beach. it was so windy the sand was whipping and stinging our legs. we put our things down and were about to get into the water when a couple of people came up to us to point out a shadow in the water that was swimming back and forth to the shore, which turned out to be a shark! safe to say we didn't end up swimming there.  

instead, we set off to find another beach (there are so many stunning beaches in the area), and came across this beautifully secluded pocket in the jervis bay area. we dipped in the water for a couple of hours in the setting sun. when our fingers were wrinkled, we got out of the ocean and sat on the beach watching the clear waves crash on the white sand. we stayed there until we were the only ones left on the beach. family after couple after person arrived and left until we were alone.

on our drive home, we stopped to let a wild echidna cross the road and then watched the bats migrate north at dusk. 

this week: rainforests

a handful of images from my week away with my family during christmas. we spent almost every day exploring and chasing waterfalls. i love being able to spend time with my family, mix that with being out in the open almost every day and i'm an extremely happy person!

1. a flock of seagulls flying over while we were shooting a campaign for 3inch fashion. 2. behind the scenes of dan filming megan. 3. a lady sitting next to us. i snapped this photo while lidija was doing megan's makeup, the lady was drawing everyone she saw on the beach and writing little paragraphs. maybe she made up a story for each stranger she saw, i never asked but i thought i'd take a picture of the watcher. 4. picking up seashells in between photos. 5. my beautiful, ever changing office for one of the days this week. 6. in the studio photographing sian for the 3inch fashion lookbook. 7. beautiful jewellery from mallow & thyme finding their way in the mail to me.

sometimes i dream of living in europe. in a little wooden cabin lost somewhere in the tall forest of pine trees. life would be simple. we'd watch the snow fall through the window in the winter and the wild deer run through in the spring. weeks like this though remind me how beautiful sydney is and today i am happy living here and being able to call these endless cliffs and angry oceans my home. my week started off in the countryside, where i wandered with my clients through the fields in the rain and fog filming and taking pictures. after a quiet start, everything changed pace when i spent two days shooting in busy sydney for 3inch fashion. we spent one day photographing their lookbook in the studio and the second day on location for the campaign. i was shooting with megan as i have many times before. every time i shoot with her it reminds me why i love what i do so much, everything is fun and free, so much movement and nothing feels like work. we just have fun taking pictures.

the rest of my week was spent at christmas parties with fellow photographers, doing some christmas shopping and catching up on what feels like a million and one things to edit. oh, not to mention i planned a few last minute shoots that will be simple but beautiful. i am itching to shoot a few personal projects before the end of the year so i thought now is a good time as any!

last weekend

i spent last weekend with my family. we went driving on long roads, went to eat at yummy restaurants and came home to the stars sparkling on our rooftop.

tomorrow i will be blogging the story of how i got started in photography. im scared and excited to share something so personal with you all. for the time being, i will leave you with a self portrait i took against a blank wall the other day with one of my presents from wildfox couture!

i spend a lot of time on the road

i hardly ever post personal things to my blog. this is something i really want to change this year. i want to share with you my thoughts, things as meaningless as tea at midnight to the photos and stories from my roadtrips around the countryside. these pictures might not be much, but i need to start somewhere! i hope you like these small nothing pictures for now. i've been taking photos every day so my next blog post will include even more. if there is anything you'd like me to blog about in particular, please let me know! 

this bench belongs to the backyard of my second home by the mountain side and the shoreline in wollongong. my mum and her partner live here with my sister and his son.

this is the view now just outside my old room. the edge of the forest used to be lined with beautiful and lush bamboo trees before the awful council came around and chopped them all down. now my view is dead trees.

dan came to visit me while i was staying in wollongong for a few weeks at the end of the year. 

we saw a mini carnival being set up on the way home from visiting my dad's so we stopped to have a look. last time we went to a carnival we ate too much fairy floss and felt sick after going on the same upside-down ride five times in a row. we had the best time. this time the carnival had a few 'try your luck' games and a ghost train, so we ended up standing by the river for a few seconds before heading off.

we stopped and sat in the car until it went dark, waiting for our table for mexican food. it's becoming my new favourite thing to take photos when it's almost dark.

the first photo i took with my 35mm. the day before i was going to shoot a wedding i had my mind made up that there was nothing else that i wanted more but to get a 35mm lens that day. i called up countless of places until i found a camera store that had just one left in stock. dan and i drove into the city just before the store closed and it is now happily part of my little family.

Why hello there everyone, I think its time for me to get back into blogging! I've spent the past couple of weeks so so busy with shooting and uni, i've barely had any time for anything else! this week i've had a shoot every single day, starting with today's post. 

This is how the little story goes..

Friday morning Dan and I wake up early morning and drive with Mikey down to Sydney airport to pick up his girlfriend & her friend. They're from Queensland and never been to Sydney before, so we decided to take them around to all the touristy spots we could think of (which weren't that many haha). We started off the day at the darling harbour where i took photos of strangers and they took holiday photos of each other. Then we headed to taronga zoo (I haven't been there since i was about ten!) where all the animals looked lonely and sad in their cages, it made me cringe.

today, a random wednesday, the day after the long weekend when everyone is supposed to go back to work, we drove to the wombeyan caves where there is no reception and nothing but grass and roads as far as you can see. we left early morning, i was (and still am) sick and dreary, my head nothing but a daze of clouds.

the road after the highway to the caves was a little rickety one - nothing but rocks and the edge of the mountain. we couldn't see around bends and every car driving past made it feel like we going to be pushed down into the trees and nothingness below.

this week has been one of those weeks when i wake up and just want to take pictures of everything. i miss it so much, taking photos for the fun of it - just to document life so i never forget. today has been a breath of fresh air (even though i am finding it hard to breathe with this cold i seem to have woken up with), i think i needed to get far away from the world, life, city, everything.. im feeling so inspired right now. exhausted and inspired.
